Project: Canouan Airport Rehabilitation
Date: May, 2022
Location: Canouan, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Tests Performed: DCPs | Test Pit Logging
Description:
GID Services Inc. was engaged by Kocks Consult GmbH to perform 9 DCP tests through the existing runway, aprons and taxiways of the Canouan Airport, to determine the bearing capacity of the pavement within the first 2m below the surface. Our scope also included the logging of 4 test pits within the runway shoulder, from which index laboratory tests were performed on 12 test pit samples, along with density and index tests on 12 core samples retrieved from the runway, taxiway and apron wearing courses. This project provided a unique challenge as the airport was active during our investigations, requiring us to liaise closely with the airport control tower and management team to ensure that all equipment and personnel were evacuated from the paved surfaces of the airport prior to flight arrivals.
